Juventus’ president cousin Lapo Elkann arrested in New York for faking his own kidnapping

Andrea Agnelli’s cousin Lapo Elkann was arrested in New York this past week-end after faking his own kidnapping, the Daily Beast reports.

Elkann, 39, is president, founder and majority shareholder of Italian Independent Group. He is a consultant for Ferrari and was responsible for brand promotion Fiat Group.

According to reports from the USA, Elkann arrived in New York last week and reportedly spent two days having cocaine and smoking marijuana with a transsexual that he had previously contacted. Having run out of cash after two days, Elkann reportedly contacted his family in Italy asking for a ransom of $ 10.000 claiming that he had been kidnapping by a woman who wanted to hurt him.

The Agnelli family contacted the NYPD that found out the truth shortly after. Elkann was summoned to court before being released. Members of the Agnelli family have release no comment to Italian press agency Ansa.
