Juventus injury news: Bonucci could be ruled out until 2017

Juventus’ star defender Leonardo Bonucci could be ruled out until 2017 with a muscular injury, today’s edition of Il Corriere dello Sport reports.

The talented centre-back picked up a harmstring injury during yesterday’s defeat to Genoa and is being ruled out for the next three weeks. The Italian paper, however, claims that the player’s recovery could take longer than expected and that Bonucci, a transfer target of Manchester City and Manchester United, could remain out of action until 2017.

Juventus will be facing Atalanta, Torino, AS Roma and Crotone in Serie A before the Christmas break as well as Dynamo Zagreb in Champions League and AC Milan in the Italian SuperCup final.

If the report of Il Corriere dello Sport is confirmed, the 29-year-old defender will only return to action on the 8th of January when Juventus will be playing against Bologna at the J Stadium. Bonucci has two goals and one assist in 17 games so far this season and his injury added to those of Dani Alves and Andrea Barzagli could force Juventus to sign a new defender in the winter transfer window.
