CM Exclusive: Why Inter could be ahead of Juventus in race for Berardi
The young Calabrian striker’s potential summer move to Inter attracted controversy because of what many thought was undue pressure from the Old Lady on Sassuolo not to sell.
Now, however, the new ownership at the San Siro seems to be getting on well with the Neroverdi, and is being aided by its increased resources, which have softened the Emilians somewhat.
Judging from the way in which president Giovanni Carnevali addressed Inter a few months ago, things seem to have taken a turn for the better.
What hasn’t changed is the high esteem in which Berardi is held by director of sport Piero Ausilio, who has always been a great admirer of the 22-year-old. Even Carnevali’s recent statements: “There was no official contact with Inter, they spoke to the player [Berardi]’s entourage”.
That says a lot: an Inter fan since childhood, Berardi has been speaking directly to the club, while Juventus… are leveraging their long-standing relationship with Sassuolo.
The young Italy striker referenced his desire to play for his childhood club to Ausilio on numerous occasions… will he finally get his wish?
