Milan crisis: Berlusconi had to be talked out of hiring Brocchi after Atalanta disaster
Things are going horribly in Milan right now. As if Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Atalanta wasn't bad enough, Silvio Berlusconi has been putting more pressure on manager Sinisa Mihajlovic. Il Giornale (a paper owned by the Milanese magnate) reports this morning that Berlusconi called Adriano Galliani to his residence at Arcore.
What did they talk about? La Repubblica has the insight, claiming that the Cavaliere had to be talked out of firing Mihajlovic and doing a Lazio, aka hire the youth team manager (Cristiano Brocchi) in his place. Reports of the former Inter and Milan player (who also co-owns a restaurant with Cristian Vieri) taking over have been circulating for months, with the talk being that he would be flanked by Marcello Lippi.
As previously mentioned, Mihajlovic has the team's backing, with the likes of Cristian Abbiati, Ignazio Abate and Alessio Romagnoli all saying that the squad was with the Serbian manager.
Sinisa, for his part, is furious with his players, and has consigned them to the usual ritiro, or punishment boot camp.
Milan have also resumed their shocking form on dead balls (which they seemed to have finally mastered only a few weeks back): they've conceded 15 out of 33, or 45.5% of their total goals.
La Stampa, a Turinese newspaper, underlines that since their 2-0 mauling at the hands of Sassuolo, Milan have earned only 2 points in 4 games, and one win in six.
Guess who is waiting for them on Saturday night? That's right, Juventus, their rival for the Coppa Italia, which will be played at the end of the season.
Saturday will be key, and not just in terms of results. A big loss may compromise everything that Miha has worked for, and the only trophy that can salvage the season, if only partially.
