Barcelona retire from race to sign Juventus defender

Barcelona are not going to sign Stefan Lichtsteiner in the January transfer window, Mundo Deportivo reports.

The ‘Swiss train’ was among the players on Barcelona’s shopping list for the right-back position, but the injury of Dani Alves has caused Lichtsteiner’s return to Juventus starting lineup. The former Lazio defender’s contract runs until 2017, but Juventus have an option to extend the player’s stay at the club until the end of the season.

Barcelona have decided to retire from race to sign the 32-year-old defender as Juventus are not going to sell him in January. The blaugrana are now considering signing Darijo Srna.

The Croatia International has asked his clubs Shakhtar Donetsk to sell him to the Nou Camp outfit in case they make an official offer to sign him next month.

Srna, however, will be used a temporary replacement for Dani Alves as Barcelona have already targeted Valencia’s Joao Cancelo for the summer transfer window.
