Unhappy Liverpool, Juve target Herrera could leave Porto in January

Unhappy Liverpool, Juve target Herrera could leave Porto in January

Porto captain Hector Herrera is not in the form of his life having only registered three assists and scored one goal in 15 appearances with the Portuguese club. The Liga Sagres giants are seven points behind table leaders Benfica and the concern of fans has been growing over the last few weeks due to the team’s disappointing performances.

Herrera’s relationship with Porto manager and fans collapsed on the 29th of October when the Mexico International was replaced in the 62nd minute of the Vitoria Setubal clash that eventually ended with a disappointing 0-0 draw. Fans’ have been hitting out at the 26-year-old midfielder from that day and Nuno Espirito Santo has lose faith in the former Pachuca man excluding him from the Porto starting XI in the following three games and giving Herrera only three minutes in the direct meeting against Benfica.

Juventus and Liverpool are long time admirers of the ‘box-to-box’ midfielder who is struggling at the Estadio Do Dragao. Both clubs were asked to meet the player's € 40 million release clause to sign the 26-year-old midfielder last summer, but given his poor performances with the club, Porto might sell Herrera for a fee in the region of € 20-25 million.

Juventus are starving for midfield reinforcement in January and believe that Herrera’s crisis is mainly due to the overall poor performances of his teammates rather than to the player’s lack of quality and personality. The Serie A giants could make contact with Porto in the next few weeks, but if the Liga Sagres will confirm that Herrera is available for just € 20 million, the Serie A giants will have to face competition from Liverpool as well.
