De Boer: ‘How I am going to save Inter job’
According to reports, De Boer is on the brink of sacking with five defeats in the opening 11 games of the season as Thursday’s Europa League win against Southampton was not enough for the Dutchman to secure his job.
Is it better for Inter not to play at San Siro?
“I don’t know, I still think that playing at home is better because our fans can support us. I want to see the reaction of my players in a pitch like Bergamo’s. Stands are very close to the pitch and there will be many challenges in the middle of the pitch, I loved these games when I used to be a player.”
Are sacking rumours exaggerated?
“I can only change this situation with hard work. I trust my staff and my players. We have to improve when we have the ball possession, but against Southampton we were organized. I think we are going the right direction.”
Is Brozovic going to start against Atalanta?
“He played with discipline against Southampton, that’s important. Also defensively, he was very intense.”
What about Gabigol?
“Italian football is very intense and he can’t make a move and then just stop. He’s a good player but still needs to adapt to Italian football.”
Do you have any regrets after your first two months in Italy?
“We have to remain concentrate for the whole game, we can start playing well after that we have allowed a goal. We have to play well, with discipline and do it consistently.”
Is the team affected by rumours on the manager’s future?
“I think they’re happy about the work we are doing. There are many player in our squad and I have to make decisions, I can’t play everybody. Players have no patience, but that’s normal in football. We are working hard, I am hopeful.”
What are Inter still getting wrong? “Against Cagliari we made many crosses, but we only had one chance. We must bring more players inside the danger area, Icardi can’t be the only one scoring goals.”
How is he?
“Icardi played well against Southampton. He always wants to score, but he played as a leader, showing that he’s working hard, like every captain should do.”
