Exclusive: Chelsea interested in signing exciting Serie A winger, says agent

Diego Sebastian Laxalt is a former Inter youngster who moved to Genoa on a permanent deal last summer in exchange for Cristian Ansaldi who travelled the opposite direction to join the Meazza hierarchy. Laxalt is now one of the most exciting wingers in Serie A and our reporter Emanuele Tramacere has exclusively interviewed his agent Vincenzo D’Ippolito. The Italian agent has revealed that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is a long time admirer of the 23-year-old winger, so much so he wants to take the Uruguayan winger to the Stamford Bridge.

Why did Inter not believe in Laxalt?
“Inter signed him for just € 3 million in 2013 and they had already decided which path he had to take. Last summer they needed a new full-back and decided to offer Laxalt to lower Ansaldi’s price-tag. There was another manager at Inter at the time, so we don’t have any regret.”

Laxalt has been playing for many clubs over the last few seasons: Bologna, Empoli and Genoa. Why has he changed so many clubs?
“I think he was not very lucky. He was playing consistently at Bologna under Stefano Pioli. He scored his first two goals against AC Milan and was playing as centre midfielder and winger. When Pioli was sacked and Ballardini took over at Bologna, things did not go as well for him. When Laxalt moved to Empoli he was one of Sarri’s favourites but it was difficult to adapt him to Empoli’s tactical system. Then Gasperini imposed Genoa president Preziosi to sign him...”

Which are Laxalt’s plans for the future?
“Genoa believe in him, but they are always open to sell their players for the right offer. He’s not going to leave in January, but the club will definitely listen to offers at the end of the season.”

Which clubs are interested in signing your client?
“There are many clubs that have been scouting him. Fiorentina have been watching him for very long time, they also wanted to sign him last summer, but there are requests also from the Premier League. Conte had been scouting Laxalt when he was in Italy and he’d love to take Laxalt to Chelsea now.”
