With Sabatini out, Luciano Spalletti is becoming Roma's one-man show
With director of sport Walter Sabatini recently announcing his resignation at the end of the season, there is a void in the Giallorossi's front office, which some thought would be filled by Empoli's Director of Sport, Marcello Carli.
Instead, a report from leggo.it today underlines just how central a role Luciano Spalletti is taking.
Spalletti was the Giallorossi's Coach from 2005 to 2009, before returning to his old post earlier this year. He has since led Roma to 9 wins in 10 Serie A games.
How so? Simple, the Tuscan Coach has convinced James Pallotta of his managerial skills, and is now charged
For a start, Spalletti intends to meet with Rome prefect Gabrielli to discuss the presence of the barriers in the two ends of the Stadio Olimpico, as well as the increased security measures instituted as a response to numerous incidents of fan disturbances. Quite how he intends to "solve this question before the end of the season" remains unclear.
He's also already talking to Director General Mauro Baldissoni and Sebastiano "Sebino" Nela about next season, from the acquisitions the club plans to make to the season ticket promotion campaign.
Intanto, si relaziona con Baldissoni e Nela ed è preoccupato anche per la prossima stagione (la campagna abbonamenti che di solito partiva a fine marzo resta in stand by).
Finally, Spalletti has... his original job left. Namely, trying to get Roma to catch up and overtake Napoli (who are four points ahead) for second place in Serie A, something which would guarantee automatic qualification for the Champions League group stages.
Roma have four of their seven remaining games at home, whilst Napoli could lose Gonzalo Higuain for three or four games due to suspension, taking him out of both Napoli's trip to the San Siro to face Inter... and their date at the Olimpico with Roma.
