Why Juventus would get more money than Napoli in case of Champions League victory

Juventus and Napoli have already gained € 12.7 million each just for taking part to the Champions League group stage, but winning games and progressing in the tournament will bring more money for the only two Serie A clubs involved in Europe’s most fascinating competition.

Napoli had an extra € 1.5 million for yesterday’s win over Dynamo Kyiv and Juventus will try to get just as much snatching the three points against Sevilla tonight.

A draw in Champions League games is worth € 500.000.

In addition to these money prizes, UEFA guarantees extra € 6 million for qualification to the last-16 stage, € 6.5 million for the quarter finals, € 7m for semi-finals qualification and € 11m to get to the final plus € 4.5 million in case of victory.

As goal.com points out, however, Napoli and Juventus are not going to get the same money in case of Champions League victory. The ‘Market Pool’ (money coming from TV rights and sales proceedings) is not shared equally between clubs as it is divided into two parts.

The first part is the same for every club because it is linked with results in the Champions League. The second part varies depending on last season’s results in the domestic league.

Juventus would get the 55% of this second part of the market pool in case of Champions League victory, given that they are the defending Serie A champions this season. That means Juve could get somewhere between € 120 and € 140 million in case of Champions League victory.

Napoli, on the other hand, would get somewhere around € 90 and € 110 million (45%) as they qualified to this Champions League’s campaign as Serie A runner-up.
