What would an all-Italian Milan look like?

What would an all-Italian Milan look like?

What are Milan's alternatives in case the Chinese takeover never goes through?

Though the Rossoneri would be very well served by a takeover from a consortium of rich investors, the difficulties encountered in the negotiations thus far lead many to believe that they could take a completely different path, and realize owner Silvio Berlusconi's (much flaunted) dream of having an all-Italian team. This would, at least in theory, allow the Diavolo to keep salaries down, and go for the promising young talents which the country has to offer, but which many are saying aren't getting the chance to shine on the big stage.

Who would be in such a lineup? We can only speculate, but we'd likely begin with Marco Giampaolo, Milan's choice if the sale doesn't go through. He's a young coach, and would be able to work well with a developing core, and help it play an exciting – if not necessarily ruthless – brand of football. Who better than one of Sacchi's disciples?

Judging by what talent Milan currently have on hand, we've come up with the following XI:

Donnarumma; Abate, Paletta, Romagnoli, Antonelli (De Sciglio); Montolivo, Bertolacci; Giaccherini, Vazquez, Bonaventura; Lapadula (Pavoletti). Coach: Giampaolo

Gabriel Paletta is hardly an inspiring choice, and the same goes for Emanuele Giaccherini. This would hardly be the cheapest choice, either, as exciting talents like Franco Vazquez, Leonardo Pavoletti and Gianluca Lapadula would need to be acquired. Having Mattia De Sciglio or Andrea Bertolacci is hardly a guarantee, either.

What do you think of this all-Italian team?
