West Ham, Saints compete for Udinese star to bolster defence
According to a number of sources, Udinese’s Molla Wague is being scouted by both West Ham and Southampton, who need defensive reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.
The 25-year-old is in his second full season with Udinese on loan from Granada, where he has mostly played as the right-sided centre-back in a three-man defence.
Though he has never played for parent club Granada, it has to be remembered that Udinese are considered more of a priority by their common owners - the Pozzo family - and that Wague is considered to be a very promising prospect in Italy.
He has already scored four goals for his country, Mali, in 20 appearances.
Wague was picked up when he was still a youth with Caen, in France, which may explain why some Ligue 1 clubs are also reportedly interested in him.
West Ham could do with bolstering their sieve-like defence, while Southampton’s centre-backs, Virgil Van Dijk and Jose Fonte, are being pursued by multiple Premier League clubs.
