Vazquez, now he's half-price: Milan in pole
For many he is without doubt the success story of a forgettable season for Palermo, but he is unrecognizable from the player of 12 months earlier. In season 2014-15 he netted 10 times in 38 league games, often at crucial times to earn himself a call-up to the Argentina national team and become the object of desire for some of Italy’s great clubs.
Juventus did come calling, but president Maurizio Zamparini wanted €25 million and not a penny less. There were no takers and when striker Paulo Dybala departed for Turin, the player nicknamed “El Mudo” remained in Sicily. A year later and with just five goals in 32 appearances and his side deep in relegation trouble, Vazquez is no more a big player on the transfer market and from €25 million last summer; €10-15 million would now secure his services.
Zamparini recently confessed that he had “Been contacted by Milan but the price they offered was too low”. Now, with Cristian Brocchi in charge at Milanello, the system could change to 4-3-1-2 and Vazquez could be the perfect fit in this formation. In the event of relegation, Palermo would probably be prepared to loan him to any potential suitor with a view to them taking him on a permanent deal at the end of next season for around €10-12 million.
