Serie A flop XI so far

At the beginning of the week, we had posted Serie A’s top XI of matchday 7. Today, we highlight those players who have failed to live up to promises in the opening seven games of the season.

Here’s the Serie A flop XI:

    GOALKEEPER: Marco Sportiello
He was supposed to be a starter, but a dispute with Gian Piero Gasperini in the deadline day of the transfer window (after that he was denied a move to Fiorentina) has forced him to sit on the bench in the first games of the season despite being considered one of the most promising goalkeepers of the Italian football panorama.

    DEFENCE
    Ignazio Abate:
The AC Milan fullback is not in the form of his life and in the last few games Montella opted for Davide Calabria to play in place of him. A mistake in the last Serie A game cost Milan the goal.
Thomas Vermaelen: The Belgian International has been struggling with injuries despite looking fit when he joined AS Roma from Barcelona.
Edenilson: Preziosi wanted him back at Genoa, but has been given few game time and was given his marching order in the only game he started.

    MIDFIELD
    Riccardo Saponara:
Neither goals nor assists registered so far. He was benched in the last league game against Juventus.
Marcelo Brozovic: Expectations were high on the Croat at the beginning of the season, but after a huge argument with De Boer, he’s not going to get much game time until Januuary.
Daniele Baselli: He had a very good start to the season, but he’s not on good terms with Sinisa Mihajlovic anymore and his game time could face cut in the next few games.
Dennis Praet: There were many expectations on his as he was paid € 10 million by Sampdoria. He still needs time to settle in well and make the difference for the blucerchiati.

    ATTACK
    Alberto Paloschi:
Swansea must have sent us back the wrong version of the product of AC Milan academy. Gasperini prefers Petagna over him. He could leave in Januaty.
Alessandro Matri: With Gregoire Defrel who has been scoring bags of goals since the beginning of the season, Mitra Matri can do nothing but watch his teammates from the bench.
Jospi Ilicic: Thirteen goal last season, one fluffed penalty so far this term.
