Seedorf: Milan are thinking only of the Champions League
Have AC Milan already bowed out of the race for the scudetto? To listen to Clarence Seedorf’s comments today it would almost seem so.
In today's press conference he said: "The scudetto won last season was an important statement for a new team, but we are all aware that we must do better in Europe: a club like Milan should always aim high, try to reach the final and win the Champions League. It’s the only thing we think about".
"The only thing he thinks about", therefore AC Milan is the Champions League. Legitimate and logical. The Rossoneri history shows us, they have always feet at home in Europe, even more than in Serie A. The last year said it, after winning the league, it is automatic to point to a more important goal, the Champions League.
And Seedorf, who won the Champions with Ajax (1995) and Real Madrid (1998) both wins with AC Milan (2003 and 2004), is the perfect embodiment of this way of being Milan.
The Milan that will face Viktoria Plzen tomorrow in the Champions League and on Sunday will visit Juventus in Serie A is a Milan side who, admittedly, has their primary goal in Europe, like in the 2010-11 season their objective was the scudetto. Seedorf does well to say so immediately, because it is good that the Rossoneri supporters already know in September what kind of season awaits them: in Serie A they will suffer (as seen in these early days), in the Champions League there will be room to dream.
