Save Private Gabbiadini! | Giovanni Scotto
Previously set for a renewal, mere months after Napoli had refused a €25m Wolfsburg bid for him, Manolo Gabbiadini is now seemingly incapable of even acting as Arkadiusz Milik's replacement.
Coach Maurizio Sarri's decision to roll with Dries Mertens as a false nine met with another failure yesterday: as talented as he is, the Belgian isn't suited for that role, and he shoots very little.
Though he's admittedly not played well, is Gabbiadini really that bad? Are we sure that he simply doesn't need help with his confidence?
Acquired from Sampdoria midway through the 2014/2015 season, Gabbiadini was still able to reach 20 goals in Serie A, despite still being played behind Gonzalo Higuain.
Even now, the fact that Napoli haven't found any alternative approaches for him is indicative of a lack of trust. Can he really have lost all the skills that had him end that first season as the highest-scoring Italian in Calcio?
