REVEALED: Napoli (and ADL's) interest in Juventus striker Zaza!
Our sources say that there's something, all right. Napoli are very interested in signing the Juventus striker, who faces shockingly stiff competition to get starts this season, as he is now behind former Partenopei hero Gonzalo Higuain, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic in the attacking pecking order.
The man who downed Napoli with a screamer at the J Stadium last season, Zaza was set to move to Wolfsburg before the whole deal fell through. President Aurelio de Laurentiis would have seen it as confirmation that he was right about the 25-year-old - whom he already liked when he was plying his trade at Ascoli. This led him to ask Coach Maurizio Sarri's opinion of Zaza, which apparently is a good one.
The striker had already been mentioned in negotiations over Gonzalo Higuain, but De Laurentiis swore that he wouldn't lower his star striker's price with any swaps. Even now, ADL's plan is complex: were he to recruit Zaza, he wouldn't let disgruntled striker Manolo Gabbiadini go, as he is popular with the fans.
Napoli's president doesn't want to spend any money on Zaza, either: despite Juventus appreciating Gabbiadini, the only solution ADL envisages is a loan with option to buy... something Juventus are loth to agree with.
One thing is certain, however: both Napoli fans and Zaza himself are enticed by this possibility. What better way for the striker to prove his worth and ensure that the San Paolo quickly forgets 36-goal hero Higuain?
