There are just a few managers in world’s football that can showcase a Champions’ League and a World Cup title among their triumphs and Marcello Lippi is one of those.

After just another winning spell in charge of the Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande, the 67 year old has made is return in his hometown Viareggio, waiting for the next bench to sit on.

The former Juventus manager was reported to be very close to sign with AC Milan last term, when Filippo Inzaghi was struggling on the Rossoneri bench. According to rumors, Lippi was supposed to take over from Superpippo along with former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro.

During an interview released to the Italian radio show La Politica nel Pallone, the five times Serie A winner disclosed that he has been in talks with AC Milan in order to sit on the club’s bench.

“I was in contact with AC Milan and we spoke more than once [with Adriano Galliani, AC Milan’s CEO as well as Lippi’s friend]. By the way, I was not very willing to join them even if they are a great side. I would prefer to be in charge on a national team, I can’t say anything more.”

“I know that me and Fabio Cannavaro are still linked with and AC Milan move. This rumors are not new but as I said I have different plans, despite AC Milan are a huge club.”

Sinisa Mihajlovic is walking on this ice at San Siro as the Serbian manager has failed to meet the club’s expectations in this first handful of matches. “Milan have spent a lot last summer and we expect more”, Adriano Galliani told the journalists ahead of the last game against Torino.

The Rossoneri have racked up ten points thus far and are filling a mediocre 11th place in Serie A. In case that also Mihajlovic will lost his job in the next weeks, he would be the third manager sacked at San Siro in the last 18 months, following Clarence Seedorf and Filippo Inzaghi.
