Real Madrid identify potential replacement for departing Man Utd target Pepe

Real Madrid are considering signing Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastatopulous as a replacement for departing Manchester United target Pepe, the Bild reports.

Pepe, 33, has just six months left in his contract with the last Champions League winners and according to reports from Spain he’s considering his future at the club given that he’s been replaced in the Merengues’ s starting XI by French defender Rapahel Varane.

Manchester United are interested in signing the Portuguese defender as a free agent as José Mourinho is a long time admirer of his compatriot having already worked with him at the Bernabeu.

In case Pepe decides to leave Real Madrid, the LaLiga giants have put Sokratis on top of their transfer shopping list, but would have to wait until January 2018 in order to make an official proposal to BVB given that Zinedine Zidane’s side have been handed a two-transfer window ban leaving them unable to register new signings for the next two transfer campaign.
