    The last seven Serie A titles have been conquered by the team that had the less-beaten defense of the league. The current table leaders Inter and Firentina make no exception as the Nerazzurri are the best defense in Serie A thus far (7 goals conceded) while Paulo Sousa can rely on the 3rd less-beaten defense of the tournament (nine goals against).

    Prolific strikers and skilled attacking wingers usually hit the headlines, while having a solid-rock defensive line is still something quite a bit underrated. Calciomercato.com has ranked the top 10 defensive duos that have featured in the last 30 years of Serie A.

    Since 1985 Milan could rely on some of the finest central defenders of all times: just think about Franco Baresi and Alessandro Costacurta or Alessandro Nesta and Paolo Maldini.

    Juventus’ Gaetano Scirea and Sergio Brio also featured among the best Serie A defenders in the ‘80s, while Ciro Ferrara and Paolo Montero secured the Bianconeri’s defense in the ‘90s.

    Fabio Cannavaro and Lillian Thuram have been at the heart of Parma’s defense before moving to Juve and just a few years ago Lucio and Walter The Wall Samuel were the mainstays of Mourinho’s defense at Inter.
