Palermo, Official: De Zerbi dismissed, Corini is the new coach
After publicly backing his coach at the weekend, Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has dismissed Roberto De Zerbi after the rosanero were eliminated on penalties by Serie B side Spezia this evening. His place will be taken by Eugenio Corini.
In an official statement, the Sicilian club stated announced that; “Having assessed the situation, the club has decided to make a change and the squad has been put in the hands of Eugenio Corini”.
De Zerbi will leave the club with an unwanted record; their current run of seven straight defeats is a Serie A record and they have yet to pick up a single point at the Renzo Barbera this campaign. The 46-year-old Corini spent four years as a player at the club between 2003 & 2007 and has previously been in charge at Crotone, Frosinone and Chievo. He now faces his most diifcult task ever in trying to salvage something form a season that already looks like ending in relegation.
