    Official: Chelsea defender signs new deal

    Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new contract with Chelsea, the South-West London club have announced through their official website. The Spanish defender joined Chelsea from Marseille for just € 8.8 million in summer 2012 and is having one his best seasons in Premier League with Antonio Conte in charge of Chelsea this term and has signed a long-term contract expiring in June 2020.

    The Italian tactician has changed Chelsea’s tactical system adopting a new 3-4-3 defence and although Azpilicueta’s natural role is full-back, Conte has moved the 27-year-old defender in a three-man defensive line where he’s impressing playing alongside David Luiz and Gary Cahill.

    ​Azpilicueta, a former Osasuna defender is one of Antonio Conte’s Chelsea cornerstones as he has already collected one goal and three assists in 18 appearances so far this season.

    ‘We’ve had some really good moments so far this season. From day one, we started working very hard. We have a new manager with new ideas and I’m really happy to be working with him. Obviously we can still improve but the long-term aim for us is to win trophies, that is what we all want, the players, manager and fans’, Azpilicueta has told Chelsea’s official website.
