Napoli-Frosinone: flurry of bets on player being sent-off, Ministry of Interior alerted
The alarm was triggered by the state monopolies to the Ministry of Interior when Italian bookmakers received a flurry of bets at different agencies, all placed within a short distance of time from each other, and for a Frosinone player to be handed a red card.
A FIX? - The bets had been calculated to avoid winnings in excess of 1 thousand euros, the threshold beyond which it’s necessary to identify oneself to cash in. What's more, they were all concentrated in a few minutes of each other and for a player to be sent off: the kind of bet usually associated only with occasional bettors. Adding to the suspicion is the fact that during the game Frosinone’s Mirko Gori was indeed sent off and after just 13 minutes. The midfielder was given his marching orders for having kicked a ball towards Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne after a foul as well as intense protests.
FROSINONE STAND BY GORI – The club have denied any of the accusations.
Mirko Gori, 23, born in nearby Tecchiena, is a guy from a good background, a good family, high-school diploma and has no bad influences in his circle of friends. He does not earn millions, but rather notable figures (at least 150 thousand euros per year), which should keep him away from any temptations.
