    Long live Cambiasso and Zanetti

    • Gianluca Minchiotti

Claudio Ranieri’s Inter is reborn around two players: Javier Zanetti and Esteban Cambiasso. The contribution of the two Argentines has been instrumental in the successes achieved by the coach in his first two matches on the Inter bench in Moscow and Bologna. Zanetti and Cambiasso were solid in front of the defence and gave the team the balance that was lost during Gasperini’s time.

This raises the question of what is the best solution for the attack, on what is the right combination of the many options available (Milito, Pazzini, Forlan, Zarate and Castaignos, in addition to Sneijder, Alvarez and Coutinho), but it is often forgotten that Inter’s real problems are in the midfield. In addition to Zanetti and Cambiasso, they can rely on a limited number of players who can be trusted, which essentially boil down to Stankovic and Motta, while Poli, Obi, Muntari and Crisetig, for various reasons, are not (or are not yet). And remember that it was the collapse of the midfield last season, that led to the heavy defeat by AC Milan and Schalke 04, who swept away the league title and led to elimination from the Champions League.

While waiting for reinforcements in January, long live Cambiasso and Zanetti.  An Inter without their contribution seems unthinkable.
