Liverpool target Insigne contract talks still on hold

Lorenzo Insigne netted the first two goals of the season on Saturday evening in Napoli’s 2-1 away win to Udinese. The talented Italian winger put an end to an 1136 minutes goals drought helping his side to snatch three vital points in race to qualify to the Champions League.

Insigne has also registered five assists in the opening 16 games of the season, but despite his positive performances with the partenopei, the player’s agents are still waiting for a call from Napoli to begin new contract talks.

According to Il Mattino, Antonio Ottaiano and Fabio Andreotti are yet to receive a call from Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis after negotiations had been put on hold last summer. Insigne is said to be a transfer target of Premier League giants Liverpool that are being monitored the player since he broke down to tears last month after Napoli fans’ boos.

Insigne signed his last Napoli contract three years ago and his current € 1.9 million-a-year deal expires in 2019. The player asks for a pay rise and a contract extension until 2021 as his priority is to commit his future to his childhood club.
