“Riccardo Saponara is a phenomenal player, he’s destined to play for a big club. Soon, nobody in Italy will be able to afford him.”

That’s a ringing endorsement from Maurizio Sarri, his former manager at Empoli and now the coach who could well take Serie A by storm this season if his spectacular Napoli side keep playing champagne football.

And now it looks like Premier League big spenders Liverpool are interested in the Azzurri Under-21 playmaker.

As the Daily Mirror reports, Jurgen Klopp would very much like the Italian to be the creative spark in his midfield.

With Roberto Firmino still injured and yet to be evaluated by Klopp, Liverpool are starting to look a little thin on the ground behind the strikers, especially now that Barcelona are courting diminutive Brazilian Felipe Coutinho.

    What will be the outcome?

Though Saponara’s abortive experience at Milan was ruined by injuries and benchings, his impressive perfomances on loan to Empoli in the second half of last season have helped his stock re-emerge, so much so that both Napoli (Sarri would reportedly give an arm and a leg for him) and Juventus were very interested in bringing the former Rossoneri hopeful in during the summer.
