Kalinic: ‘Higuain is the best striker in Serie A'
The 30 year old failed to live up to expectations at the Artemio Franchi as he only scored 14 goals in his two years-spell in Tuscany.
Nikola Kalinic’s approach to Serie A has been totally different. He joined Fiorentina on a € 3.8 million deal from Dnipro, the 2014-2015 Europe League finalist. The Croation International scored four Serie A goals this term and during the last international break he also netted with his National team.
The 27 year old performances have been so outstanding thus far that he has been crowned already as Fiorentina’s New Batistuta. Someone could struggle to cope with such an important label, but the comparison with the Viola’s legendary hit-man doesn’t seem to scare the Curva Fiosole’s new idol.
“It is amazing to be compared to such a great striker, I am so proud of it”, Kalinic told La Nazione ahead of tomorrow’s showdown against Napoli.
“At the same time, I don’t want to be influenced too much. I just hope that one day I’ll be strong enough that everyone will remember me just because I have been myself.” The Croatian hit-man had already speak out about Fiorentina’s title ambitions and also in the interview released to La Nazione, he does not hide his determination to reach Serie A glory.
“I know that we can maintain our status of Serie A leaders at the moment, but I am also aware that we might face hard times in the future. That’s something that you have to expect in football.”
Former Dnipro's target is to shock the Partenopei just like he did last season, when Gonzalo Higuain and his teammates were eliminated by the Ukraine team in the Europe League semifinals.
“I think Higuain is the best striker in Serie A, but I hope that he will struggle against us tomorrow. We want to achieve an importanti victory against Napoli."
