Inter set to replace ailing Murillo with Ranocchia for Fiorentina game
Inter are having some defensive problems, that’s for sure.
Stefano Pioli’s arrival has come too soon for the Nerazzurri to fix their back line, which has leaked like a sieve this season. Renowned for helping Roberto Mancini’s men grind out a series of close wings last season, the Biscione’s rearguard has looked less than impermeable so far, with even senator Joao Miranda putting on some underwhelming performances.
The real issue, however, is Colombian Jeison Murillo, whose trip and fall in the recent 3-2 loss to Hapoel Beer’Sheva said a lot about the difficulties he’s undergoing at the moment.
Eons removed from the young, dynamic talent who shone early last season, it now appears that the Colombian could be in line to lose his place to Andrea Ranocchia, who is hardly a guarantee of solid defending. Inter face Fiorentina tonight in a key game for new Coach Stefano Pioli, who faces an opponent who has excelled on the road, winning three of its last four game away from the Franchi.
Following a promising maiden season with the Nerazzurri, the former Bari man has since seen his form plummet, being gradually phased out of the Italy camp and loaned to Sampdoria last season.
