Benfica give green light to sale of Man City, Barcelona target Grimaldo?

Benfica have just signed Brazilian left-back Marcelo Hermes from Gremio and that could lead the Portuguese side to give the green light to the sale of Alejandro Grimaldo who is a transfer target of both Manchester City and Barcelona.

Both Hermes and Grimaldo play as left-back and the signing of the former Gremio star by Benfica suggests that a possible transfer of the Spanish defender could be on the cards in the January transfer window.

Grimaldo, 21, is one of the most promising defenders in Europe at the moment, not to mention that he has already plenty of International experience and that makes him one of the most exciting targets around Europe. Interests of Manchester City and Barcelona come as no surprise, although Manchester United could also join the race to sign the Benfica defender given the Red Devils’ struggles in left defence.

Juventus were also said to be interested in signing the highly rated 21-year-old full-back, but the injury of Dani Alves makes the signing of a new right-back the real priority for the Old Lady.

New signing Hermes has a € 45 million release clause included in his contract, whilst Grimaldo’s minimum release fee is set to € 60 million.
