Hernanes’ struggles: Examining The Prophet’s poor form

Anderson Hernanes de Carvalho Viana Lima, known as Hernanes has joined Juventus on a € 11 million deal from Inter on the last day of the summer transfer window.

His purchase has left a bad taste in Bianconeri’s supporters mouth as they were  expecting the club to bring in top class players after that the likes of Julian Draxler and Mario Goetze have been linked with a Juventus Stadium move for long time during last summer.

The 31-year-old should have been the team’s trequartista, an offensive midfielder capable of changing games though enlightening passes and swift off the ball movements.

Hernanes has failed to show his talent wearing the Bianconeri shirt having only played 396 minutes in nine Serie A games, starting four times and coming off the bench in five games. The straight red card that the former Inter was shown during the last Champions League clash against Borussia Monchengladbach was only the tip of the iceberg.

It is fair to say that Massimiliano Allegri’s confusion is also influencing the performances of the former Brazil International. Hernanes has never played as an offensive midfielder this term as the Juventus manager has always been “forced” to include in the team one of the few Bianconeri players with a strong one-to-one dribbling: the Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado.

Hernanes has only created five goal attempts, making 281 passes and producing six shots on target. The former Inter man has not blaze a trail in Juventus’ attacking actions and he has also failed to protect the defense through fine interceptions. Hernanes has only made seven tackles in nine games and has won only the 37.5% of the duels in the midfield battle.

His performances have not been outstanding, in the slightest and it seems than The Prophet is hiding himself rather helping the team to overcome a very tough situation as Juventus sit 10th in Serie A, nine points far from the table leaders Fiorentina and Inter.
