Has Barbara Berlusconi been cast aside at Milan?
Her absences from the club’s most important meetings have come thick and fast since Milan were unable to go ahead with the construction of their new stadium in the area of Portello, a project which the President’s daughter has always backed since she was appointed Milan’s Deputy Chief Executive back in 2013.
There is little doubt the 31-year-old business executive’s role inside the club has recently diminished. Her current duties right now involve the development of Casa Milan, the Rossoneri’s new headquarters, as well as growing the club’s merchandising arm, but it is indisputable that Alfonso Cafaliello, a member of Milan’s board of directors, has taken over her role in these meetings.
Doubtless Milan CEO Adriano Galliani is the winner in this battle, who has always been reportednot to be on good terms with the President’s daughter.
The 71-year-old has recovered since losing his place in the limelight, a consequence of Bee Taechaubol’s proposed takeover of the club, in which the Thai businessman nominated Doyen Sports Investments’s No.1 Nelio Lucas to manage the team’s transfers.
It was only after the botched Kondogbia and Martinez deals that Galliani regained his central role at the club, not only as the man in charge of the Diavoli’s transfer campaign but also as a reference point for issues related both to marketing and stadium.
