Former AC Milan and Manchester United centre-back Jaap Stam has told the Daily Mail he dreams of coming back to the Old Trafford with a coaching role.

Stam is currently Ajax’s youth team coach, but the former Holland International has already told the ‘Lancers’ he wants to leave the club and coach a senior team either in Holland or England.
“I’d like to start from the Premier League and if my work will be good enough, going back to Manchester United would be great.”

Rumors from Holland have also linked the  43-year-old with the Ajax’s job, but Stam believes Frank de Boer will be the team’s coach also next season.

“He has a contract with Ajax and so it is not sure I’ll become Ajax’s senior team boss. I want to improve and go to England, that’s why I told Ajax I am going to leave.”

Stam has also shared his views on his under-fire compatriot Luis Van Gaal, revealing he appreciate the current Man Utd manager much more than his former Red Devils gaffer Alex Ferguson.

“He’s a great manager, he proved it at Bayern, Barcelona and Ajax, if they give him time, he’ll also get the results.  When I was a Man Utd player I had no relationship with Alex Ferguson.”
