EXCLUSIVE Romano: Why José Mourinho turned down Roma
The Portuguese manager was offered the Roma job after the Capitoline side's shock Coppa Italia elimination at the hands of Serie B side Spezia last Wednesday.
Roma have tried to tempt the Special One with a multi-year contact and giving him carte blanche in the transfer market, so that he can make the team his own.
According to calciomercato.com’s transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano, Mourinho has turned down Roma's bid as he doesn’t want to coach an Italian team at the moment.
Romano also reports that former Inter president Massimo Moratti sent a text to the 52-year-old manager to express regret over his Chelsea sacking.
The duo are still on good terms after Mourinho led Inter to a treble back in 2010, though the Special One wouldn’t come back to Serie A, not even to coach his favorite Italian side.
