EXCLUSIVE Romano: Milan rejected Real approach for Mastour
Furtively sold by Milan towards the end of August, a number of bureaucratic problems have stopped Mastour from registering with the club. As of Thursday, Malaga can use him, though the young Moroccan will start from the Rosaleda's youth setup, at least for the moment.
The 17-year-old, however, still has a connection to AC Milan that goes beyond the emotional bond forged with Diavolo fans. There’s also an economic one.
For a start, selling Mastour should allow Milan to bag somewhere in the region of €5 million. But things are more complicated than that: the Morrocan is on loan there till June 2017, when the Spaniards will have the option of buying him for that sum.
Were they to do that, however, the Rossoneri could bring him back to Milanello by paying Los Boquerones €6 million. That way the Diavolo has the guarantee of bringing Mastour back were he to come out of his shell at the Rosaleda.
The plot thickens: one of Real Madrid’s main scouts even approached Mastour last winter. La Fabrica was unable to get its hands on the 17-year-old, encountering resistance from Milan and problems in Mastour’s personal life.
Malaga now have 18 months to evaluate Mastour. But so do Milan. If Mastour were to be sold to another club, Milan would pocket 40% of the transfer fee.
