EXCLUSIVE Romano: Juve scout Fluminense promise Douglas

Juventus’ scouting efforts in Brazil continue unabated. Having failed to secure Fluminense midfielder Gerson, the Old Lady is still hot on the heels of another 18-year-old, Palmeiras’ forward Gabriel Jesus, as well as Douglas, a box-to-box midfielder.

According to cm.com’s transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, there has already been some contact between Juventus and Fluminense with regards to Douglas, though the Rio club only owns 57% of his rights, the rest belonging to an investment fund that could complicate an eventual transfer.

Last summer, Juventus had already spoken to the Tricolor, who refused both the Bianconeri and PSV’s advances for Douglas.

The sale of Gerson could be a double dose of bad news for the Signora, who not only failed to land the youngster, but are now dealing with a club (Fluminense) that has already balanced the books with a marquee sale, and could afford to keep what is left of the crown jewels, namely Douglas.

The Serie A defending champions’ scouts –especially Javier Ribalta- will remain on the 18-year-old’s case, but signing him at a reasonable transfer fee seem a tall order at this time.
