EXCLUSIVE Romano: How Inter plan to rebuild their defense

Inter are in the middle of a rebuild. What’s so bizarre about that isn’t that they’re fourth and in the race for a Champions League spot, but that they are already thinking of next summer. With Ever Banega and Roberto Soriano very likely to both join (read our reports on them here and here), however, all attention has been focussed on the midfield, when the Beneamata is thinking of having a makeover elsewhere.

Now that the central defence has been sorted out with the arrivals of Jeison Murillo and Joao Miranda, Director of Sport Piero Ausilio is thinking of doing some spring cleaning on the wings: DAnilo D’Ambrosio and Davide Santon, for example, are set to leave if the right offer (in the region of 4-5 million) is made, whilst Yuto Nagatomo is very close to sealing his return to the Nerazzurri.

Who else is staying? Alex Telles, who has been good in the time he has spent on the pitch, though the Milanese side will be able to negotiate a discount out of Galatasaray. The Brazilian’s buyback would suddenly be 8 million.

Inter are also waiting on the Dodo situation, to see if Sampdoria (who didn’t agree to an automatic buyback) will want to do with him when he returns from his loan at the Luigi Ferraris at the end of the season.

But who can arrive? The big name at the moment is that of Bruno Peres, who has been a joy to behold for Torino over the past XXXX seasons. One thing: Inter need to ensure Champions League qualification to even begin to think about him, as Granata owner Urbano Cairo values him at 17-18 million. It’s honestly hard to see the Beneamata spending that much even if they do have the money to spare (FFP and all), anyway. Otherwise, Gregory van der Wiel has been on the club’s list for a while, whilst 21-year-old Benfica full-back XXX Semedo is raw, but too expensive for someone who is raw.

Another name who is being considered very seriously? Cristian Ansaldi, who is having a good season after an unremarkable start. But there are a number of problems: he is almost constantly carrying a knock and has skipped a number of games. Though he has big-game experience with Rubin Kazan, the Argentine is 29 years old. What makes him so interesting? The fact that Inter and Genoa can agree to a cheap deal, as the latter have a bit of a reputation in that department. Either way, Inter have already met with his agents, so keep an eye out for further developments!
