Exclusive: Defrel, not Belotti or Zaza, will be Napoli's main January target
Napoli are in need of a striker in the short term, that much is sure.
With Manolo Gabbiadini flattering to deceive, the Partenopei need an option up front until Arkadiusz Milik - who has torn his ACL - returns in the new year.
It now appears that Gregoire Defrel is likely to be the focus of Napoli’s January transfer efforts, not Simone Zaza, Andrea Belotti or Leonardo Pavoletti.
Why? Zaza himself seems set to remain in London, despite desiring a return to Italy and flopping horribly at the London Stadium.
Belotti, for his part, is likely to sign a deal which includes no release clause for Serie A teams this week, and a €90 million one for foreign ones.
While Napoli sniffed around Pavoletti last summer, the 27-year-old has been a major injury risk of late, and the Partenopei need someone who can help them in the short term.
Who is left? Either Duvan Zapata or Defrel himself, but the former is unlikely to return early from his loan. This leave Defrel, who faces Napoli at the San Paolo tonight. An audition for the €20m striker?
