EXCLUSIVE Balice: Caceres on way out of Juventus

    • Nicola Balice (@NicolaBalice) translated by Edo Dalmonte (@edodalmonte)

Martin Caceres' love story with Juventus isn't just on the ropes, it's close to ending once and for all.

And to think that six months ago, El Pelado was set to prolong his stay in Turin, and seemed set to remain with the Old Lady for a while at least, only having to wait for Leonardo Bonucci and Claudio Marchisio's extensions to be agreed upon.

The two sides had basically agreed to a new contract, with the Argentine set to play a leadership role in the dressing room as well as being a defensive everyman on defence. This despite the former Seville defender missing most of the second half of last season through injury.

Trouble is, Caceres' behaviour has finally caught up with him: his car crash in September happens to be his third off-pitch incient since re-joining the Bianconeri, and is likely to be the end of him at the Juventus Stadium, with the Argentine being suspended despite Stefan Lichtsteiner's extended absence.

Any talk of a renewal interrupted, the Old Lady suspicious not just of El Pelado's behaviour, but also of the amount of time he's spent on the treatment table, which at this stage must surely outmatch the time he's spent on the pitch.

With only three appearances this season for the Old Lady- all before his car crash in mid-September - it is odd that Caceres has played six games out of six for his country, yet has returned injured from his last two trips with the Albiceleste.

With Fenerbahce pressing, chances are Caceres could leave in January, as agent Daniel Fonseca (yes, THAT Daniel Fonseca) and he are very tempted by the Turkish club's offer. Juventus would only need to find an adequate sub in order to approve the deal, with Nenad Tomovic (something we'd exclusively reported) one of the names the Old Lady are still working on.

With Stefan Lichtsteiner making an unexpected early recovery from heart surgery, names like Fabinho and Sime Vrsaljko are no longer priorities, and the same goes for Udinese's Sylvain Widmer.

The Zebrette are still following the Simone Zaza dossier very carefully, however.
