CM Scouting: Eye on Sebastien Haller, the 'new Trezeguet'
That’s exactly what’s happening to FC Uthrecht’s front-man Sebastien Haller, who’s talent is considered a mix between David Trezeguet and Thierry Henry.
The 22-year-old striker has amazing moves despite being 190 cm tall. He’s a classic centre forward who’s also very good with the ball at his feet. Scorer of 14 goals in 26 games this term, Haller is capable of playing ‘for his teammates’, which means he’s able to keep the ball in possession to take some pressure out of his side’s defense.
Haller is a product of the Auxerre academy, but his debut in professional football was quite shocking. He played the U-17 World Cup with France in summer 2011 but he could only score one goal in the tournament, while Les Blues faced elimination in the quarter finals.
Given the interest of the best European sides, Auxerre made him sign the first professional contract shortly after, but Haller begun to play on a regular basis from the following season, after his side had faced relegated from Ligue 1.
Haller scored only six goals in the following two seasons, convincing Auxerre to sell him on loan this past January.
That was the turning point in Haller’s career: he netted 11 goals in 14 games last term and Ererdivise side FC Uthrecht decided to make his move permanent for t a fee of € 750K.
Thanks to his convincing performances in Holland, Haller is now a mainstay of France U-21 squad as he’s netted four goals in the last seven games under coach Pierre Mankowski.
Could he hold a candle to his illustrious compatriots?
