Barzagli: 'Romagnoli and Rugani are the future'
Juventus star Andrea Barzagli has backed Italian youngsters Daniele Rugani and Alessio Romagnoli to become the future of Italian defending.
"Romagnoli is good, young, and he's got personality" Barzagli told Sky Sport 24 "He's got a promising future, that is if he has the mentality to want to be the best, and to improve".
Barzagli and his Juventus team will face Romagnoli's Milan at the San Siro this weekend, and team-mate Daniele Rugani will be hoping to start, too, with half of the Bianconeri's regulars at the back out through injury.
The former Palermo and Wolfsburg defender had some positive things to say about Rugani, but a lot less about the state of Italian youth football.
"I think Rugani and [Romagnoli] represent the future, otherwise I see very little behind them. I think that we need to trust these youngsters more, and give them a chance".

Barzagli also mentioned that Juventus "are edging towards the finishing line. Were we to win in Milan, it would be a key step towards the Scudetto".
The veteran Juventus defender, 34, has won four consecutive Scudetti with the Bianconeri, and was a part of the Italy team that won the World Cup in 2006 (though he played a minor role) and the Euro 2012 team which made it all the way to the final in Kiev, only to lose 4-0 to Spain.
