    Barcelona travel to Argentina to finalize contract extension with Mascherano

    Barcelona are ready to offer Javier Mascherano contract extension to ward off the interest of Juventus, Sport.es has revealed. The Argentinean midfielder’s current deal expires in 2018, but Barcelona want to offer him a further extension as well as a pay rise, that’s why the club’s technical director Robert Fernandez is flying to Argentina. Mascherano is believed to be offered a new three-year-deal.
     
    The Spanish website also reports that there are multiple reasons why Mascherano could decide to leave Barcelona and the club’s rush into offering El Jefecito a new deal means they fear Juve will have convincing arguments to persuade him to depart from the Nou Camp.
