Arsenal are set to join Chelsea in the race for left-back Diego Laxalt.

The Metro report that the Gunners, who have long had a philosophy of recruiting young players, are also interested in nabbing the former Inter academy player, 23, is considered one of Serie A’s most impressive talents at full-back.

Laxalt has provided seven assists and scored four goals since joining the Genoese side two seasons ago.

The Grifone paid almost nothing for him, swapping a far older Cristian Ansaldi (who is 29) for half of the Uruguayan’s rights, the other half costing them only €2.3m this summer.

The Genoese side are known for churning out young, promising players, being the club that sold Thiago Motta and Diego Milito to Inter Milan the season the Nerazzurri won the Treble, including the Champions League.

With Oscar linked to a move away to the Chinese Super League, Chelsea could do with another midfielder who can play as a wing-back, something he has done since he first moved to the Marassi stadium.
