Monaco have confirmed the signing of signing Stephan El Shaarawy.

According to Tuttosport, the Pharaoh will remain a Monaco player, despite not having reached the 15 appearances which would have triggered the €17 million buy back clause in his €2 million loan.

According to the report, Monaco’s front office called Adriano Galliani in the last few hours to confirm that they wanted to make the 22-year-old Italian international’s stay permanent.

El Shaarawy hasn’t exactly exploded onto the Ligue 1 scene this season, starting only four games and being subbed off in all of them. He has failed to score in the league, though opened his account by netting Monaco’s equaliser against Tottenham in Thursday’s Europa League 1-1 draw.

He has been both praised and chided by coach Leonardo Jardim for his skill and lack of shape.

"He has great technical ability and can create imbalances," the Portuguese gaffer confirmed.

"Now our goal is that he maintains the same consistency when he plays a whole game."
