ANALYSIS: Gonzalo Higuain vs. Edinson Cavani
The Argentina International has struggled in his second year under Rafa Benitez due to off the field matters, such as the problems emerged during his contract renewal talks with the club or the World Cup final lost in 2014 at the hands of Germany.
With Maurizio Sarri in charge, Higuain has finally become a terrific hit-man that could help Napoli snatching the third Scudetto in the club’s history.
The 28 year old has scored 62 goals in 116 games since he joined the Stadio San Paolo in 2013 following a € 37 million move from La Liga giants Real Madrid. Napoli supporters are delighted with Higuain’s astonishing scoring rate of one goal plundered every 104 minutes.
The club’s President Aurelio De Laurentiis could afford the purchase of the Argentinean ace thanks to the €64 million sale of the former Napoli front-man Edinson Cavani to PSG.
The Uruguay International boosted Napoli’s pedigree among Serie A and Europe League contenders during his two year spell at the Stadio San Paolo. He scored 108 goals in 134 appearances with the club, including a phenomenal hat-trick against Juventus and the four goals plundered in Europe League at the expenses of Dnipro.
When he joined Napoli on a € 17 million move from Palermo in 2011, Cavani was considered a good offensive winger but under the former Inter manager Walter Mazzarri he proved to be the best Serie A striker, just like Higuain right now.
Both Higuain and Cavani have lifted a Coppa Italia at the Stadio San Paolo, but will the Argentinean star be able to go the extra mile, snatching a Serie A triumph with Napoli?
