Alessandro Nesta reveals he wanted to return to Lazio

Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta has revealed he was close to rejoining Lazio back in 2007. The former Italy International completed a € 30 switch from the biancocelesti to rossoneri back in 2002.

“In 2007 Massimo Oddo was Lazio’s captain and when I met him during a national team training camp I asked him to talk with club and see if they were interested in having me back there.”

“My contract was expiring that season but no one from Lazio has ever called me. I hadn’t asked for lot of money or other privileges. I stayed at AC Milan and won the Champions League that season.”

“I wanted to go there before moving to the MLS, but after it would have been too late, so I went to the US straight away.”

“I don’t know if Oddo has ever spoken to Lazio about our conversation or if they expected me to ask them a high salary. In the end it was just a conversation between me and my friend Oddo so I can’t say Lazio refused my return.”
