Why Stevan Jovetic has lost his killer instinct

Why Stevan Jovetic has lost his killer instinct

Stavan Jovetic was among Inter’s main summer signings as the Montenegro International joined San Siro on a € 2.5 million loan until June 2016 from Premier League giants Manchester City.

The former Fiorentina star blazed a trail in the opening two Serie A games plundering the winner both against Atalanta and Carpi. The 30th of August, by the way, was the last time that Jovetic wrote his name on the score sheet.

Roberto Mancini’s  4-3-1-2 system was a better fit for Jovetic who gives his best when playing as a supporting striker. The former Manchester City boss has switched to the 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 formation since the beginning of September, playing Jovetic winger or attacking midfielder, two roles with which Jovetic seems to struggle.

The product of Mladost Podgorica and  Partizan Belgrade Academy is not an attacking midfielder nor a classic centre-forward or winger.

Before the 30th of August, Adem Ljajic and Ivan Perisic were still playing for Roma and Wolfsburg respectively, while Mauro Icardi was injured. At the time, Jovetic was Inter’s focal point up front alongside Rodrigo Palacio.

This doesn’t mean that signing Ljajic and Perisic was a mistake, nor that Icardi’s comeback was bad for the club, but it is a matter of fact that Jovetic’s outcome in terms of goals is not the same since when Mancini changed Inter’s formation at the beginning of September.

At the end of the day, Inter sit second in Serie A just one point far from table leaders Napoli and Mancini doesn't seem to have lost any sleep over his n.10’s lack of goals.

    At least for now.
