Why Man United failed to land Renato Sanches
Bayern Munich director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claims that the Red Devils were as yet unsure as to who would sit on the bench at Old Trafford, and that it gave the Bavarians time to land a knockout blow.
“Renato received a tangible offer from Manchester United,” the Bayern chairman told the Bild, “but on the eve of the Champions League semifinal we became aware that the Red Devils couldn’t close the deal because they didn’t have a Coach yet.
“We therefore decided to contact Benfica, met their president and Renato’s agent in Madrid and reached an agreement that same night”.
