Why Corentin Tolisso is not going to join Juventus in January

Why Corentin Tolisso is not going to join Juventus in January

Juventus are willing to get some midfield reinforcement in the January transfer window as the injury of Kwadwo Asamoah and the departure of Mario Lemina for the Afrian Cup of Nations will leave Massimiliano Allegri with short of options, not to mention that the Old Lady urges to add some quality in the middle of the pitch.

Midfielders linked with a January move to Juventus are still the same: Axel Witsel and Corentin Tolisso, but even the arrival of just of them in the January transfer window is highly unlikely: here’s why.

The French midfielder is available for € 25-30 million, a sum that Juventus are not willing to invest in January, not to mention that Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas is not open to sell the U-21 French International even if Lyon are struggling in Ligue1 and are likely to face elimination from the Champions League group stage.

In addition to that, Tolisso would not be eligible to play the Champions League knock-out stage with Juventus from February and signing him just to play Serie A games until the end of the season would be nonsense because Juventus urge to sign midfield reinforcement mainly to try to win Europe’s elite trophy.
As for Witsel, as we reported yesterday, Zenit St. Petersburg are not going to sell him for just € 5-6 million in the winter transfer window, even if he Belgian’s contract expires in June 2017. The Russian side prefer seeing Witsel leaving the club for free at the end of the season rather than sell him for an unconvincing offer.
