Inter, Roma stalwart Walter Samuel bids farewell to football
“There is a moment when you need to become aware of your body”, the 37 year old told the Swiss press.
“If you feel pain in every part of your body, then your mind doesn’t work properly too. I still want to play football, but I have some physical problems that are preventing me to carry on. I need more time to recover. If the youngest players usually take one day to recover from a game, I take at least two or three.”
“It is not an easy decision to take at all.”
Throughout his career The Wall played with Newell’s Old Boys, Boca Juniors, Roma Real Madrid, Inter and Basel, his current club. He only failed to lift a domestic league trophy during his spell at Real Madrid, while he won at least once the Argentinean championship as well as the Swiss and the Italian leagues.
The Serie A is the championship where he played the most having racked up 291 appearances wearing the shirts of Roma and Inter. Among the greatest achievements of the former Argentinean International playing career there are the Scudetto lifted with Roma in 2011 and the Treble won with Inter in 2010.
