Vialli: "After the Barcelona-Sampdoria final I cried for a week"
In an interview with Itasportpress.it, Italian football legend Gianluca Vialli has been recounting his favourite memories from a distinguished career in the game. He was asked to single out one particular highlight and the former Sampdoria, Juventus and Chelsea striker stated that; “I’ve got so many great memories but the one that I remember most was the European Cup Final of 1992 against Barcelona at Wembley. Unfortunately my Samp team lost the match and I cried continuously for the whole of the next week. It was a fantastic atmosphere, a truly memorable night”.
The 52-year-old made 223 appearances for the blucerchiati and led them to their only Scudetto in 1991. He transferred to Juventus after that final heartbreak and finally won European club football’s biggest prize in 1996 before moving to the Premier League to join Chelsea. He became player-manager of the West London club in 1998 and was sacked in 2000. A year later he was put in charge at Watford but was only in post for one season. He’s now a regular pundit for Sky Italia and Sky Sports UK.
